FAQ
Contract farming, answered plainly.
The questions companies, farmers and FPOs ask us most — with honest, jargon-free answers.
What is contract farming?
Contract farming is an arrangement in which a buyer (such as a food processor, exporter or retailer) and a farmer or farmer producer organisation (FPO) agree, in advance of a season, on the production and supply of an agricultural product — typically covering quantity, quality standards, price or pricing mechanism, and delivery. It gives buyers more reliable supply and gives farmers a more assured market.
Is Contract Farming India a marketplace or a buyer?
No. We are an independent advisory and facilitation firm. We do not buy produce, we are not a marketplace or trading platform, and we are never a party to the contract between a buyer and a farmer. We advise, structure and facilitate fair arrangements between the two sides.
Do you guarantee a price, a buyer or an outcome?
No. Markets and the contracting parties determine prices and whether a deal proceeds. We help design fair, transparent arrangements and give honest advice on what is realistic, but we cannot and do not guarantee any specific price, buyer, volume or result.
How does Contract Farming India help companies and buyers?
We help companies assess feasibility, select crops and clusters, mobilise farmers and FPOs, structure balanced contracts, meet compliance and traceability requirements, and manage grower programmes through the season — so they can build dependable, fairly sourced supply.
How does Contract Farming India help farmers and FPOs?
We help farmers and FPOs connect with serious buyers, understand contracts in plain language, negotiate fair terms, and access good agricultural practices and programme support — so they can secure an assured market and improve realisation while protecting their interests.
Is contract farming legal in India?
Yes. Contract farming is practised across India and is regulated through a mix of central guidance and state-level frameworks. The applicable rules depend on the state and commodity. We help structure arrangements that are compliant with the law applicable to your programme, but our guidance is not a substitute for independent legal advice.
What crops and regions do you cover?
We work across a wide range of crops and commodities and operate India-wide. The right crop, cluster and model depend on your specific goals, which we assess at the start of every engagement.
What does it cost to engage you?
Engagements are scoped to what you need — a single stage such as a feasibility study, or end-to-end programme support. There is no cost to start the conversation; we’ll discuss scope and fees transparently before any work begins.
