For companies & buyers

Reliable supply, fairly sourced

Need traceable farmer supply? We find and organise farmer groups and FPOs and structure the contract.

Food processors, exporters, retailers and agribusinesses come to us to build consistent volumes, quality and traceability through contract-farming programmes that farmers actually want to stay in.

How do we help companies?

We help companies set up contract-farming supply in India. We find and check farmer groups, FPOs and landowners in the right cluster, design the programme (crop plan, pricing, quality and support), and structure a fair written contract. We are independent advisors: not a trader, not a party to the contract, and we guarantee no volumes.

The sourcing problem

Common supply headaches, and how good programme design answers them.

Unpredictable volume & quality

Structured grower programmes with package-of-practices support and field monitoring to stabilise supply and meet your specs.

Price volatility & spot-market exposure

Transparent pricing mechanisms (fixed, formula or floor-price) that share risk fairly and keep farmers engaged season on season.

Traceability & compliance pressure

Records, traceability and audit-readiness designed for food-safety, export and ESG / responsible-sourcing requirements.

Hard-to-reach, fragmented farmers

FPO partnerships and aggregation models that let you work with many smallholders through trusted structures.

Programme design

How we design a contract-farming programme, step by step.

Engage us for the whole programme, or only for the stage where you need help.

  1. Step 1

    Sourcing brief

Crop and variety, volume, quality specs, season, delivery points and the states you can source from.

  2. Step 2

    Feasibility and cluster selection

Where the crop grows well, water and soil fit, logistics, competing buyers, and whether the economics work for farmers too.

  3. Step 3

    Find and organise farmer groups

We identify FPOs, farmer groups and landowners in the cluster, check acreage, water, records and track record, and organise them into a workable supply base.

  4. Step 4

    Programme and contract design

Pricing model, quality norms, input and extension support, delivery and payment terms, and a balanced written contract that both sides understand.

  5. Step 5

    Onboarding and first season

Farmer meetings, sign-up, package of practices, field monitoring and records for traceability.

  6. Step 6

    Review and scale

A season review on volume, quality, farmer retention and disputes, then adjust terms before you scale up.

FAQ

Contract farming for companies: common questions

How can a company start contract farming in India?

Start with a clear sourcing brief: crop, volume, quality, season and states. Then pick a cluster where the crop grows well, find organised farmer groups or FPOs there, and agree a written contract with a fair pricing model. A small first season, reviewed honestly, is safer than a large launch.

Do you supply the produce?

No. We are independent advisors and facilitators, not traders and not a party to your contract with farmers. We find and organise farmer groups, design the programme and structure the contract; the supply relationship is between you and the farmers or FPO.

Is contract farming legal in India?

Yes. The Centre released the Model Agricultural Produce and Livestock Contract Farming and Services (Promotion and Facilitation) Act in 2018 for states to adopt, and Tamil Nadu enacted a law on that model in 2019 but repealed it in December 2021 before it came into force. The central Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 was repealed by the Farm Laws Repeal Act, 2021, so state law and APMC rules apply and must be checked state by state.

Should we contract with individual farmers or an FPO?

An FPO or organised farmer group usually makes aggregation, quality control and payments simpler, and gives farmers a stronger voice, which helps retention. Individual contracts can suit large growers or specialised crops. We advise on the mix for your crop and cluster.

Can you guarantee volumes or farmer performance?

No, and no honest advisor can. Weather, pests and prices affect every season. Good programme design, fair pricing and field monitoring reduce the risk of shortfalls and side-selling; they do not remove it.

A note on expectations

We are advisors and facilitators. We design and help run sound programmes. We do not guarantee specific prices, volumes or that any individual farmer will perform. Contract farming reduces and shares risk; it does not remove it. We will always tell you what is realistic before you invest.

Contract Farming India (contractfarmingindia.com), an advisory service of Agpro Consulting Private Limited, New Delhi, helps companies, farmers/FPOs and landowners set up fair contract-farming and land-lease arrangements.
